Board of Directors
AsureQuality is owned by the New Zealand Government and our Board of Directors have been selected from a diverse range of backgrounds and abilities to ensure AsureQuality is governed effectively and continues to build on its success in the fields of food assurance and biosecurity.
I was appointed to the Board in May 2016. I am a scientist and dairy farmer and have over 18 years’ experience in governance roles spanning the commercial, educational, sporting and farming sectors. My previous roles include Director of Human Nutrition at Massey University, and Technical Manager for Fonterra during which time I was involved in commercialising food innovation internationally. I am a farmer-elected Board Director for LIC.
I have a passion for the primary industry and in particular dairy, and together with my husband Andrew own a 630 crossbred dairy herd in the Wairarapa. I have an honours degree in agricultural science and a PhD from Massey University.
Appointed to the Board in May 2017, I have previously held governance roles within the science, food, dairy and automotive industries. I am currently Chairman of Maui Milk and Southern Cross Genetics, and a Director of WEL Networks Ltd. and Waikato Milking Systems. My previous roles have been across a diverse range of industries and have included CEO of HortResearch, and Managing Director of NZ Milk Products (Europe). Most recently, I was the Chief Executive Officer of Tatua Dairy Company for almost nine years until January 2017. I have a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (Hons) from Victoria University in Wellington, and I am a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.
I am the CEO of Tuaropaki Trust which participates in energy generation, food production and the telecommunications sectors. I have a broad range of governance and management expertise gained from time as a Partner in IBM’s Global Business Consulting, Managing Director of EDS New Zealand and as CEO of Tainui Group Holdings. I have also held senior executive roles overseas where I have gained business experience in IT, communications, energy, banking and financing, aviation, merger and acquisitions and supply chain. I have an MBA from the University of Waikato.
Appointed to the AsureQuality Board in May 2015, I also hold advisory and governance roles in insurance and finance businesses within NZ, and provide strategic agri-business services internationally. I have governance skills in business evaluation, debt raising, investment programs, and structural reorganisation. I have 25 years executive management experience in FMCG, rural servicing, agri-business, shipping, fuels, and fishing sectors that includes roles as CEO of Tegel Foods limited, and chairman of the NZ Poultry Association. My international expertise includes board representation, and leading diverse and multi-cultural workforces that has taken me to the Middle East, Russia and the Pacific. I am a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
With over 25 years’ experience as a CFO and non-executive director in multi-national environments, I was appointed to the Board in January 2019. My career has spanned industries including FMCG, pulp and paper, forestry, building and banking. Since 2002 I have worked in the food industry with the past seven years in finance leadership roles at Mondelez International. Most recently I was based in Singapore as Director Finance Controlling across the Asia, Middle East and Africa region spanning 34 countries from New Zealand to Morocco and in Dubai leading finance for the North West Africa and Turkey region. I was previously CFO for Kraft Foods Australia and NZ. I started my governance career as a non-executive director of Melbourne based forestry company Vicforests. My experience has covered finance, strategy, risk management, and governance of businesses across diverse international markets. I have a BMS (Hons) from the University of Waikato and am a CA.
Appointed to the Board in November 2019, I have over 30 years’ experience in senior executive and governance roles. My previous roles include Chief Executive and Executive Director positions with Panacea Healthcare and Tacit Group, along with multiple advisory and senior management roles within the healthcare, insurance, finance, IT and manufacturing sectors. I have considerable expertise in business and technology strategy, risk management, mitigation planning and corporate governance.
I was appointed to the Board in July 2021 having previously held governance roles in the food, automotive testing, tourism and science sectors. I am currently Chair of two privately owned entities in primary industry and employment dispute resolution, as well as sitting on the Industry Advisory Board of the High Value Nutrition Science Challenge. My previous roles have been across the food and beverage industry, including Country Manager New Zealand and Pacific at The Coca-Cola Company and COO of Smartfoods, producer of Vogel’s Cereals. I have a B.Comm from the University of Canterbury and am a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors. I am delighted to be able to contribute to the food industry in New Zealand through my role on the Board of AsureQuality.
I was appointed to the board in July 2021 and have a broad and varied background including leading the New Zealand Public Service Association (NZPSA), legal practice, leadership and governance consultancy. My governance experience includes the boards of Transpower NZ Ltd, NZ Football and the NZPSA. I am currently a member of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association’s (FIFA) Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee and its Human Rights Sub-Committee. I have a Bachelor of Laws degree from Victoria University.
